City Forest
Stadtwald St.Pölten: The city's most spacious park is ideal for sports and exercise.
Exercise has an "imperial" tradition in the Stadtwald St.Pölten. Created in 1898 as the Kaiserwald in honour of Emperor Franz Joseph I, the city forest offers parents and children plenty of space for recreation and exercise.
The city forest borders the city center to the west and is now home to nearly 250,000 plants. Numerous walking paths lead to an animal enclosure and a spacious adventure playground for children. A two-kilometre-long forest nature trail imparts knowledge about the local flora and fauna. The animal enclosure includes about 50 species such as fallow deer, rams and mouflons. For the sporty, this generously laid-out park also allows visitors to test their fitness and stamina on the 15-station Danube trail.
