St. Pölten's museums recall the past
The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Several museums in St. Pölten are dedicating special exhibitions to this historic event. Visitors are invited to engage with the past and learn more about the impact of the war on the region.
St. Pölten City Museum: A look into the shadows
With the exhibition ‘Blick in den Schatten’, the City Museum sheds light on the Nazi era in St. Pölten. In addition to the National Socialist era, the social continuities up to the present day are also addressed. The exhibition is on display until May 2025.

Museum of Lower Austria: Children of War
From April 2025, the Haus der Geschichte im Museum Niederösterreich is presenting the exhibition ‘Children of War. Growing up between 1938 and 1955’. It provides insights into the lives of young people during this turbulent time and shows how the war and post-war period shaped their upbringing.

Former synagogue St. Pölten: I am an Austrian!
The temporary exhibition in the former synagogue is dedicated to the life and work of photographer Kurt Bardos, whose fate was tragically lost in the Holocaust. The exhibition takes an in-depth look at Jewish history and identity.

Museum am Dom: Memories in the air-raid shelter
Although the Museum am Dom does not have its own exhibition on the end of the war, the history of these shelters and the people who sought refuge here is presented in the former air-raid shelter on Domplatz.
